Biking Solo

Aaron took the training wheels off Frank's bike a month or two ago. The idea was Frank would learn to ride his bike, but what it really lead to was Frank never riding his bike. We would help him try when he was interested (like maybe four total times), but he usually refused. So this past week I considered putting the training wheels back on. Tuesday evening, I decided to give it one last shot before conceding defeat to Frank's stubbornness. Amazingly he did great. I helped him start and stop, but in between he was doing it on his own. I would just run along side him and pretend to be holding the bike when he would look back. Tonight when we went out, he was riding confidently on his own. He's almost able to start himself, but still shaky. Stopping is okay, though occasionally he ends up with a tipped over bike. He's no pro, but he is doing great.

  1. ah, I remember the "crash landing" phase well! The boys should get together and ride bikes soon!

  2. Hooray! I didn't get my training wheels off until I was 7 or 8, so Frankie is ROCKIN'!

  3. Way to go Frank! That's a great milestone. Keep the bandages handy:).

  4. Yay, Frank! We still haven't gotten Bennett to ride without training wheels. We are slackers.

  5. Wow, that's impressive. Lucy just started riding since we got here in Vegas. She's had a bike since she was two but had no interest until the girls in the neighborhood were out riding. Thank goodness for cheap bikes at walmart (she out-grew her two yr old bike).
