What will the queen say?

A few weeks back, Elise's fingernail got caught on a door that was opening, and it basically ripped the fingernail off.  I mean the fingernial was still attached, but I knew it would eventually fall off.  About a week ago, it started basically hanging off her finger, but she would not let anyone touch it to pull it off.  I tried everything I could think of to get her to let me yank it off, and I may have mentioned at one point that we could put the fingernail under her pillow and trick the toothfairy.   Finally, yesterday, she ripped it off herself.  Her finger still looks a little gross, but at least her fingernail isn't hanging there any more.
She remembered the toothfairy comment, so last night she put the fingernail under her pillow.

This is where my words backfire.  My children could not go to sleep.  They were in bed at around 8:30, but about every five minutes one or the other of them would come out with a question pertaining to the toothfairy.  What does she look like?  Why won't she come when we are awake?  Where does she live?  How does she carry the teeth?  You get the idea.  Frank finally fell asleep around 9:45, but Elise was up until at least 10:15.  It was a super fun evening for me.  Then, I almost forgot to do the swap before I went to bed.  I only had a couple of quarters in my purse, so I guess that's the price for a ripped off fingernail.

This morning, Frank woke Elise up at like 7:45.  I was pretty mad about that.  When she stays up late, she's good at sleeping in, so she probably would have slept until 9:30 or so.  Curses to him.  She was also pretty mad about it, and refused to check for toothfairy prizes until he left the room.  She found her two quarters, and I guess was feeling bad about being mean to Frank, so she gave him one of the quarters.   The breakfast conversation this morning was very interesting.  I think the most memorable part was when they started discussing whether or not the Tooth Fairy Queen was going to be angry that they tricked one of the toothfairies into giving Elise money for a fingernail.  I can't even imagine how they stumbled upon this train of thought.

Wednesday I promised Frank and Elise I would fill some water balloons up on Friday afternoon (since school gets out early, and we've got time to kill).

Last night, I managed to slice my finger nice and deep with a butter knife.  All cuts hurt, but a not-very-sharp-butter-knife cut is awful.  I guess trying to cut frozen butter while holding it in your hand is not a good idea.

Back to my little water balloon promise.  This afternoon, I took a couple of balloons outside, and grabbed one to start filling.  I filled it up and started to tie it.  It was the most excrutiating pain ever as the balloon knot slipped into my cut and wouldn't slip out because its kind of a deep cut and it couldn't get out of the groove.  I can't even try to explain this properly.  Let's just say, I was really in pain, and I am now fully aware that I will not be filling any water balloons in the near future.  My kids are sufficiently devastated, but they'll get over it.

That brings my random thoughts to an end.  I need to install my camera software onto our new computer so that I can add some pictures one of these days.  The end.

and I laughed out loud at the thought of those two wondering about whether the tooth fairy would be mad...I can just imagine Frank being concerned about some tooth fairy backlash when he finally loses his teeth!

  2. The tooth fairy queen . . . so even the tooth fairy has someone to report to, who might be disappointed that they tricked her with a fingernail. Hmm. Sorry about your finger; I managed to superglue my right thumb and forefinger together yesterday. I ripped them apart, but it sucked.
