It's officially over between us...

We had a good run, but after 15 years it is just time to say goodbye.

I'm talking about me and my Tracer, of course.

Aaron and I just spent three hours tonight buying a new car.  We aren't sure if we are suckers, or if we are shrewd negotiators.  It's one or the other.  Now I have this totally cool new car:
This is obviously a stock photo.  It's night, and I'm much too lazy to actually take a picture.  My car does look exactly like this, though.  Anyway, I'm really excited to have air conditioning again, and now I have a car without a weird engine rattle.  Good times.

Three Cheers for Gainful Employment!

I got a job offer this morning!  I'm going to teach 10th and 11th grade at Desert Hills High School.  I also get to start an Academic Decathlon team!  Yeah!  I'm really excited, but now my brain is half way in 7th grade and half way in 10th grade.  It's a trippy place to be.

I might actually start on April 29th.  The teacher I'm replacing for next year is leaving at the end of April.  I'm still considering.  I'll probably do it, but I'm going to be gone for a week in the beginning of May, and it seems really weird to be there for a week, and then be gone for a week, and then be back for the last two weeks of school.  I don't know.  It might be a good way to readjust to the older students before the beginning of next school year.

It is so nice to know that I will have a job at the end of all this!

Hurray for Spring Break!

Spring Break could not have come at a better time.  I needed a break.  I still have a million things to do (write a paper on non-euclidean geometry, plan a bunch of units/lessons, finish a chapter of geometry homework, create a new seating chart for my students, prepare for interviews, finish another application for another math job that came up, etc.), but it's still a break!  The best part is that after this week-long lovely break, I only have five more weeks until I'm finished student teaching!  Yeah!  I am totally counting down the days until April 19th!

In order to generate sympathy...

I will share the math problem that I am currently working on.

Let A, B, C, and D be distinct cocircular points and fix a line m not through A.  Let X, Y, and Z be the points where AB, AC, and AD, respectively, meet line m and let W be the intersection point of m with the tangent at A to the circle through A, B, C, and D.  Show that cr(A, B, C, D) = cr(W, X, Y, Z).

Don't you wish you were taking Math 3100 this semester?

I get really tired of reading these problems and trying to figure out what in the world they are talking about....  2 hours later, I usually get it.  This week, I have about 19 problems to finish.  No wonder I'm going completely crazy!

Note to self...

Try to avoid using "p" as the variable in 7th grade.  Just stick with "x" or "y".

Coolest Music Video Ever

Well, that might be a slight exaggeration.  This video is super cool though.  If you aren't familiar with calculus it will probably be meaningless.  My favorite part is the part about the constant.

Ugh

Well, I just took a three hour geometry test.  It had 6 problems, and I finished 4 1/2.  I'm hoping this is just flash backs to Charlie Jui (pronounced Ray) at the University of Utah.  I was pleased as punch to get 34% on his tests, and still ended up with an A in the class.  Anyway, this test was delightfully brutal, and while I think it is important to be able to draw a diagram from a description, I also think it is nice to occasionally provide a diagram.  Also, does every question have to be super hard?  I understand the importance of having hard questions, but it is okay to throw in a few moderate ones as well.  Give a girl a break!

Okay, rant over.  I really do enjoy this geometry class, I just needed to vent for a minute so that I can sleep tonight.  Maybe next time there's a test, I'll share some of the super cool problems here on my blog, just so you can be glad you're not me.

Peace.
