I injured my thumb in a freak paper mache accident on Sunday.  I have never been more aware of how much I use my right thumb.

Lest you wonder why I was even in the vicinity of paper mache, I have foolishly decided to construct a pinata for Frank's birthday party.  This is foolish for a number of reasons:
1. In general, I hate pinatas at parties.
2. I don't want to buy any candy to go in the pinata, but it seems sort of anticlimactic for it to be empty.
3. I'm not certain I have anything the children could use to hit a pinata.  A broom is too long.
4. So far: 5 hours working and all I have to show for that time is six paper encrusted balloons.
5. Brown and peach tissue paper are not available in St. George. (If you've heard otherwise, let me know.)
6. I'm supposed to be planning pack meeting (tomorrow), not wasting time with balloons.
7. I had no idea paper mache could be so dangerous.

There are more reasons, I'm sure, but I should probably get Frank up now, since the bus will be here in 7 minutes.  Yikes.  Oops.

  2. when we did parkers we used brown and orange streamers. I found them just as effective as tissue paper.

  3. That's quite ambitious of you. I wouldn't even try. Piñatas are fun, but I suggest borrowing a bat. There must be one of your scouts who owns one!

  4. did you decide on a party day then?

I think Jac's idea for the streamers is a good one. At Wal-Mart they sell party supplies by color...I don't recall seeing brown and peach, but I would assume they have those colors of streamers. Good luck!
