I've been on a bit of a thrift store kick lately. For a long time, I was pretty fed up with the St. George thrift store scene, but then I discovered The Hope Chest. Also, Catholic Thrift is still around, which I did not know until the other day. Anyway, I've gotten some great shoes at thrift stores lately. Yesterday, at Catholic Thrift, Elise spied a beautiful prom dress. About my size. I've got a million things to do, and my house is a mess, but why not try converting said prom dress into a pint size princess dress. You may make fun of me for watching Project Runway, but it really came in handy today. I've seen lots of little tricks on that show that I was able to incorporate into my transformation process. Four hours later: Success!!! It is fantastic. I mean, it was going to be a little different than this. I was going to add sleeves, etc, but in the end, laziness won out and I pretty much just shrank the dress. It's just a mini version of what it once was. Only the original didn't have a gathered skirt. Anyway, pictures do not do it justice. Especially if I don't even bother to remove the red eye or crop them. Plus, Elise was watching Dora, and she wasn't really in the mood to pose. I'm totally happy with how it turned out, and I'm thinking I'll make more in the future, you know, when I see that perfect dress at a thrift store.
P.S. Total cost of this dress up dress: $1.50. That's right, a dollar fifty. Catholic Thrift had a great sale going on yesterday.
P.P.S. Beka: if you are reading this, I didn't see any 8-tracks.

Totally awesome! I've been hitting the DI frequently but sometimes it's expensive, even for second hand stuff. I'm interested in your other second hand gems. :)
ReplyDeleteCute! BTW, our soap worked.
ReplyDeleteTrès bien fait. I'm always impressed at your skills with a sewing machine. And I'm a fan of thrift stores too, though the D.I. scene is getting a little expensive. $5 for a used shirt? Really?
ReplyDeleteawesome. I won't judge you for your interest in project runway...but you already knew that. I, too, am loving the whole "repurpose" concept.
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT! I got the cutest retro clock the other day at Catholic for $2. I love that place. PS I scored at Repeat Performance in the 8 track department. However, when I hooked up the speakers to my player a strange, disconserning smell was detected. So I think I'm going to have Jared look at it so I can find out if it was a lost cause or not. Tell Elise she looks JUST like a princess.
ReplyDeleteYou got skills girl! I think of doing things like that, even buy projects... but then I don't finish them... How's that for lazy!
